Last time we reported on all the Louisiana- shot films showing at the 65th annual Cannes film festival... and we’re proud to announce director, Benh Zeitlin’s, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” starring young Houma native, Quvenzhane Wallis won the Camera d’Or award! This award followed the film’s Grand Jury Prize and Excellence in Cinematography awarded at Sundance 2012 and was preceded by the audience award for best narrative feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival last week! In addition to the international outstanding film festival honors, “Beasts” received impeccable media reviews! In fact, I’m so impressed at the critical acclaim this unique film has received; I want to share with you all: “ One of the year’s best movies is “Beasts of the Southern Wild” “Some of the most eye catching cinematography in recent years…” - Marlow Stern, The Daily Beast “Among the best films to play Sundance in two decades” - Menohla Dargis, The New York Times “ It is animated by the same spirit of freedom it sets out to celebrate” “ Hushpuppy is an American original” - A.O. Scott, The New York Times “Benh Zeitlin's debut feature evokes life in a surpassingly strange corner of Louisiana through the ecstatic spirit of a 6-year-old black girl named Hushpuppy” “But the best way to see "Beasts of the Southern Wild" is to sit back, let its pleasures wash over you and forget, at least for the duration of the experience, about making distinctions between what's real—and shockingly harsh—in Hushpuppy's life, and what's boiling in her imagination” - The Wall Street Journal "BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD" will be in theaters tomorrow, July 4, 2012 click HERE for a listing of where to see the film in your area: |
